You might need a Lactation Consultant If:

  • You are pregnant and you are thinking about breastfeeding or need help picking a pump

  • You are wondering if breastfeeding is going right

  • You are not sure if your baby is getting enough of your milk

  • You are experiencing difficulty or discomfort when nursing

  • Your baby is premature or has special needs

  • You have twins or triplets

  • Your baby is not gaining as much weight as your infant’s physician would like

  • Your baby is 2 weeks old and you are thinking about stopping breastfeeding because you or baby are unhappy

  • You have concerns about your milk supply

  • You need help selecting a breast pump

  • You need help fitting or using your breast pump

  • You have questions about medications you are taking

  • You are ready to return to work and need an individualized pumping plan

Appointments

Common visits include:

  • Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation (pump questions, surgical issues, previous problems breastfeeding, planning to exclusively pump and bottle feed, expecting a pre-term baby, education, resources)

  • Nipple pain or breakdown

  • Engorgement

  • Latch-on difficulties

  • Slow weight gain of the baby

  • Low milk supply

  • Integrating Supplementation

  • Too much milk

  • Painful breasts (mastitis, thrush)

  • Medications/Supplements

  • Feeding devices (Supplemental Nurses, Nipple Shield, Shells, Bottles etc.)

  • Going back to work (Transition and pumping plan)

Home, office in person appointments and Telehealth available. Telephone and electronic communication and follow up provided. We will offer professional clinical assistance within the IBCLC scope of practice to work toward resolving lactation related issues you or your baby may be having. You will receive an individualized care plan to include education and resources to meet your needs and progress toward your goal.  All this will take place in a comfortable and judgement free environment, where your plan will lead the way. 

**Note: Home visits are available for Newborns weeks 1-4 only for Initial Consultation. All other visits, including home follow up visits, will be done at our office location in Edwardsville, IL.

Fees and Insurance

Estimated Fees

General fees-$125/hr. prorated based on nature of the appointment, distance of travel, complexity of problem/duration of the visit, or telephone/text/email consult time.  Fees will be assessed at the time of service unless we can bill your insurance.

Prenatal Visit-1-1.5 hr-$200-225
Initial visit (1.5-2 hours)-$250
Follow up visit (1-1.5 hours)-$100-$200
Telehealth Consult (30 min to 60 min.)-Starting at $90.00

Insurance

We are currently accepting Aetna, United Healthcare, Coventry, Meritain, Tricare, GEHA, and UMR insurance for direct billing.  New insurances being added all the time!  Please contact us see if your insurance is billable. If it is not, payment is expected at the time of service. We can provide you with a medically coded invoice to present to your insurance for possible reimbursement if you have coverage!
